Blaming young women for how they are treated by men because of their clothing is completely unfair. A girl might wear an oversized t-shirt and baggy sweatpants and a guy will still be curious about her. The same goes for girls. The idea that it's a girl's fault if she's commented on or violated because of how she's dressed is disgusting and completely sexist. Reilly Card and Neil Haran, authors of an article titled “High School Dress Codes: Sexist or Appropriate?” in the school newspaper, provide an example of this guilt, using the phrase “he was wondering” to demonstrate this point. No girl ever asks to be insulted, looked at or, even worse, raped. As mentioned above, girls go to school to learn and their clothing should not impede this. Card and Haran also raise awareness that by calling what girls wear “offensive” or “promiscuous,” it is implied that they dress more to impress the male population rather than to exercise their self-confidence or show off a new outfit. This is unfair to young women, as it further blames them for anything bad that happens
