Statutory rape is when an adult has sexual intercourse with a minor. Every two minutes someone in the United States is sexually assaulted. There are also many cases of statutory rape, but how many of these statutory rape cases are legitimate? Some people say that statutory rape laws are discriminatory against males, and in some cases they are, just because they are the adults. Should statutory rape laws be changed depending on the background of the case? Or should they continue the same way, and continue punishing males when it may not be their fault, or if they were deceived by the girl? Should we change the way these statutory rape cases are tried? In April, eleven Marines were wrongly arrested for having separate sexual relations with the same 13-year-old. The eighth-grader had lied about her age and told the men she was nineteen. The Marines only cared for this child because they believed he was an adult. They had no intention of harming a child, much less breaking the law.
