Canada's immigration policies have changed many times since the end of the Second World War. Before the Second World War immigration policies were "serious" towards people who wanted to come to Canada, but after they were fair and equal for everyone. After the Second World War, Canada's immigration policies changed dramatically, from discriminatory to fair and equal to all, every country and every race. This act to eliminate discrimination was successful due to; the introduction of the Points System, the introduction of New immigration laws/policies and finally the changes made in the acceptance of Refugees. These actions completely changed immigration policies. The points system first introduced in 1967 had played a vital role in changes in immigration policies and also in changes in Canadians' ideas about other races. Instead of judging people based on their race and cultural background like before (e.g. China's exclusive law), the point system judged people based on their qualifications such as; language skills, work skills and educational level. Both people with a family and a single independent individual can apply for the points system. The introduction of the point system was also an attempt to remove all discrimination and prejudice in the immigration department of Canada and the government attempted such an attempt because after the Second World War Canada was part of the United Nations (UN) and was involved in maintaining world peace. The point system has not remained the same, as it has been changed a few times since its implementation. The first time it was changed was in 1978, it focused more on individuals, there were more educational and professional qualification requirements placed on the individual than on people with families.
