Over the last century and a half, the claim of Bigfoot's existence has cast doubt on many researchers and non-believers. Extensive research and discoveries have prompted many to search to see if there is another creature in our woods. The existence of Bigfoot is limited to substantial evidence such as sightings, footprints and bodymarks. Ben Radford, the author of “Bigfoot at 50 Evaluating a Half-Century of Bigfoot Evidence,” effectively explains the possible existence through ample evidence and theories as to whether the beast actually resides among us. The theory that there is an ape-like beast walking through our It all started with a 16mm film in Bluff Creek, California by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin in 1967. The video featured a similar tall, hairy figure to a human trolling along a clearing of trees walking briskly away from Patterson and Gimlin. The film ignited a craze among scientists and viewers to undertake a conquest to prove the existence of Bigfoot. The 1967 film was never proven to be a hoax or real evidence and is still a no-brainer today. Personal sightings or eyewitness accounts constitute what appears to be the largest body of evidence brought to attention. Sightings are not justifiable on the grounds that "Squatch" is real, no matter how many sightings are reported. The Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society has been keeping records of Bigfoot reports throughout Pennsylvania for nearly the past century. Locally, in Erie County, there are suspected to be several eyewitness accounts of encounters with Bigfoot. People often confuse a Sasquatch with a bear or some other unknown animal that they don't seem to clearly distinguish. “Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable” (Radford 2002). Surely some people would not believe a person... middle of paper... we have tested the hair and other parts for DNA and concluded that they fit into our family tree. “Those hair samples that could not be identified as known animals or humans were subsequently examined using DNA testing, starting with mitochondrial DNA sequencing followed by nuclear DNA sequencing to determine where these individuals fit into the tree of life" (Ketchum 2013). The existence of Bigfoot is not entirely certain to be real with numerous reports of acclaimed sightings and physical evidence being put on the table for researchers to decipher. From my perspective, Bigfoot is a cryptozoological creature that has yet to be explained and which I am not sure about. Radford explained the facts whether the existence of Bigfoot is real or just a hoax. It is only a matter of time when and where this mythological being will prove to be a new form of life among us.
