When my sister, a young designer, and her friends started creating multifunctional children's furniture in the old factory in Bratislava and selling it, the first thing I heard was the word "start up". I began to follow the steps of our government and its use of fiscal tools to support innovative businesses that represent the important part of economic development. Later, when I was an intern at the Brussels office of the Bratislava region, I attended several conferences in European institutions. As I sat at conferences and listened to experts talk about cluster theories, creative industries, green economy, blue economy, smart economy and many other issues, I realized that I have a keen interest in economics and would like to study it in depth. This led me to start reading Heyne's book The Economic Style of Thinking. This book is not only helping me understand how the world works, but it is also making me more and more motivated to continue studying the economic processes of the world in which we live and work. I'm not a recent graduate, but I'm more concerned about the opportunities and problems we face when getting a job, studying at university, or paying taxes. I was born in Slovakia after the fall of communism and growing up in the post-communist country interested me in the process of transition and transformation in the market economy and the creation of national branding. The short article Eastern Europe – Mislabeled published in the Economist prompted me to think about the economic differences between post-communist European countries and, by implication, between the anti-democratic republics of Central Asia. It is not only the history, but also the future prospects that interest me. Dan Se...... middle of paper ......European studies allowed me to stay in several European countries and learn foreign languages there. With the exception of my mother tongue Slovak, I speak fluent English and French (DELF B2 certificate) and have a basic knowledge of Dutch and Russian. I passed the English communication summer course at Via University College in Denmark and also have a UNICERT academic English certificate. In January I will pass the IELTS exams. Harnessing my potential and having the opportunity to study economics would help me find answers to the questions I carry in my head and would open many other doors that would lead me to critical thinking about economic issues and their analysis. I would like to have the reasoning ability to discuss and critically evaluate the economic situation of my country and to support its sustainable economic development.
