The Greeks believe that the Underworld is a place where people's souls go after death based on their behavior in life. Furthermore, in the Underworld there are many paths that the soul can renounce, such as going to the Elysian Fields, asphodel meadows and the Erinyes. The Elysian Fields are the path of good, like heaven, where the fields are green and peaceful music plays. It was a place where priests, gods, heroes and people who helped others went and some were even lucky enough to return to Earth by drinking the water from the river of oblivion. Then came the asphodel meadows where the souls of normal people who had not committed any crime lived. Finally came the Erinyes, or Furies, similar to hell and an abandoned place where criminals were punished for their sins. The Greeks believed in the Underworld as an afterlife where souls were transported to continue living. This belief was similar to the Christian one because people could choose where to go, heaven or hell, which are places where the body can continue to live beyond death based on one's previous actions. However, the Underworld is also very different from other religions' contemporary views of what happens after death. For example, in the Hindu religion, people believe that the body will be reincarnated where it can live a new life.
