Poopie PantsWhen is the end of the world? The end of the world has undoubtedly been a concept that has gripped the minds of both ancient and modern civilizations. Both new and old civilizations are actually very different from each other. As technology improves, old religious views slowly decline. Although the two are very different, they both have the same destructive result. Most ancient believers in the end of the world derive deeply from their religion. Essentially, they believed that their gods would destroy them with a natural disaster such as a flood because of their sins. An example of this is that the ancient Romans believed that Zues would flood the world hoping to cleanse the land of all sin. Because Mount Olympus was so high in the sky, a flood was the favorite natural disaster because it would keep the gods safe. Other religions also believed in a mass flood in hopes of cleansing themselves from sin. One of the most famous is the Catholic tale of Noah and the Ark. Here, God floods the earth for forty days and forty nights while it was Noah's responsibility to put two for every animal in the ark, hoping to start a new world when the flood was over; very similar to what the ancient Romans believed. No matter what the ancient religion was, they really deeply believed in their religion in some kind of natural disaster. In today's modern world, with the growth of technology, methods more different from the two-dimensional religious vision have arisen. To delve deeper into this idea, during the space race in the 1960s, scientists learned about the deflecting effect an asteroid has if the Earth is hit by it. If it hit the earth, dust would cover the earth and not allow sunlight to kill plant and animal life. We wouldn't be safe even if an asteroid were to hit the ocean. Scientists have determined that an asteroid the size of Manhattan would hit the ocean, hurl a tidal wave of four hundred feet or more, and engulf most of the continent's ocean line. Speaking of Manhattan, since the completion of the Manhattan Project, humanity has the ability to destroy the world with nuclear, hydrogen and atomic bombs..
