Motivation and Work Design Many business managers today are unaware of the response that motivation can have on their business. Company size is not a factor when considering motivation: whether you are trying to get the maximum potential out of a hundred or a single individual, everyone needs some form of motivation. It is something that is approached differently by different organizations and the reasonableness of its integration is up to all staff supervisors. It is essential to understand the various tactics that managers and supervisors will use to motivate working staff, also because it is important to initiate extrinsic and intrinsic motivation techniques with the correct job design in the workplace to achieve optimal results. “There's only one way…get someone to do something. And this happens by making the other person want to do it” Dale Carnegie. The two main forms of motivation in the workplace are exentric and incentric theory based on many theorists in the field. First, incentric motivation, which focuses on what motivates the individual in the work environment, specializes in the specific needs of employees and focuses on their strengths and the goals they pursue to satisfy their needs. One of the first to build this theory was Abraham H. Maslow, (A Theory of Human Motivation, 1943) who tells us that this idea is not contemporary. He created the “requirements pyramid” or “hierarchy of needs,” a theory that has since been used as a basis for many companies. The pyramid has five main levels: (from lowest to highest importance), at the bottom are physiological needs: this includes the body's automatic attempt to maintain normal functioning, for example thirst, nourishment, clothing, oxygen, sleep and.... .. half of the paper ......or experience in the job role and may take time to adapt and will require a training commitment from the employer, also in some cases the employee may enjoy stay in the factory and feel undervalued and demotivated if moved. From this research it is clearly crucial that motivation is maintained in the workplace. It affects all levels of the management pyramid, from low-level staff to high-level managers and, more importantly, the company as a whole. If a happy working environment is created, the results will not be measurable and will in turn lead to more profits for the company and in reality all companies whether it is retail or call center are all looking of profit maximization. From incetric, exentric and job design techniques it is up to management to determine what is best for the company, a diction that can lead to great success or shocking failure.
