With recent advances and technological advances, the FDNY is not at the helm of all the technology needed to manage emergency responses. Advances in wireless and audiovisual equipment only came into force in 2013; this would have allowed the FDNY to obtain a better assessment of fires and medical emergencies in previous years to reduce the risks and fatalities that occurred. Funding is always a factor and the department cannot always afford to invest in new and experimental equipment. If one area needs more funding, it is more than likely that funding will be reduced by another unfunded area in that department. The budget cut to create funds is likely to be reduced by administrative departments because that is where I noticed a lack of budget and funds that could be generated for employees and even materials to use. Added to this is the training of key personnel to manage the new equipment and its various functions.
