Regulate Guns In the United States, we will allow almost anyone to purchase a gun. We must regulate these dangerous weapons and provide a safer environment for our citizens. There has long been discussion within our government about how and when to regulate firearms. It seems that most people against gun control don't care or understand that gun regulation is a necessity for safety. If guns were more regulated we wouldn't have so many accidental shootings or planned and deliberate shootings by people with mental health issues. People who have mental health problems may purchase guns and live in homes where there are guns readily available and not under surveillance. lock and key. Take a look at the recent shooting at Fort Hood, where Ivan Lopez had received mental health help after returning from a four-month tour in Iraq, and shot eleven people, killing one. Lopez then committed suicide, showing how unstable he was. Then there's Adam Lanza. He shot twenty children at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. He also shot six adults at school and killed his mother before going to school. Adam Lanza also shot himself. James Holmes is another mass murderer who had seen three mental health professionals before killing twelve people in a movie theater in Colorado. If these people had not been allowed to purchase guns or be in homes with firearms, these shootings would not have been as likely. Since 1982, there have been sixty-two mass shootings in 2012. Of those sixty-two, forty-nine of them had legal weapons. In 2011, in Arizona, Jared Loughner shot during a constituent meeting, killing six people and wounding thirteen. He legally obtained guns from… middle of the paper… and how to keep our citizens alive and unafraid to leave their homes. Gun regulation is desperately needed in our country. We would have lower crime rates and lower murder rates; as well as lower accidental fire rates. In these times we must understand that our children will live a destructive and violence-filled future in which guns will be available to anyone. We as a country must realize that it is not about taking away our rights, but about giving our nation the right not to be afraid of what lies outside our homes. If we could all accept tougher and more thorough questioning before people purchase a gun, perhaps we could all feel safer. Until something is done to get mentally ill people to buy guns and sane people to lock them up, we won't get anywhere. It is vital to immediately stop the killings and regulate firearms.
