Topic > The Importance of Creative Thinking - 1258

Creativity is the ability to make the most of a situation where the odds are stacked against you. Creativity has to do with unplanned and uninstructed problem solving and thinking, not with a pre-planned and thoughtful strategy. This leads to the next reason why a creativity course would ultimately fail. While creativity is a highly valued skill in today's society, as the opposition claims, it is also a skill that cannot be cultivated. Creativity is a trait a person is born with, not a skill that can be learned over time. Thus, while both sides agree that creativity is an advantageous trait, proponents of a creativity class fail to mention that creativity is a trait exclusive to those born with it; it is not a characteristic that can be acquired over time. Furthermore, the very definition of creativity has to do with spontaneity and impulsiveness. A person cannot sit down and learn creativity. Therefore, due to the inability to hone and grow one's creativity, a class focused on acquiring such a trait would be a complete and utter waste of resources.
