Topic > King Eurovan's Life Changing Experience - 677

There is a point in life where carnal desires can have a tremendous hold on a person, causing a backfire of forced humility in the heart. King Eurovan is an example of someone who can relate to this topic. He is a character from the story "The Voyage of King Eurovan" in which he is a cruel king who longed to be in power. After abusing his power as king, it was finally taken from him. In the story, Eurovan held the wrong prisoner captive and consequently lost his crown to the gazolba bird. To get his crown back he had to travel to a foreign land and fight for it. Although the outcome of his journey was the opposite of his motivations. Instead of regaining his power and finding his crown, he was humiliated while trying to obtain his crown during the battle. He comes to an unexpected change of heart and realizes that he is just a man who has no right to anything. King Eurovan thought highly of himself, wearing a crown with a "stuffed gazolba bird" (Smith) which was very beautiful, and the last of its kind. The crown was precious to him. It had given him the certainty of being in power. While affection for his crown and power was not his only problem, he also had no desire to help his people. The king only had the urge to satisfy his wants and needs. Eurovan showed no mercy to anyone who committed a crime "he was quickly punishing all wrongdoers". (Smith) He was never challenged or dominated by anyone. His evil ways have become normal to him and acceptable in his eyes. ... half of the card ... in fact he could no longer be king. He humbly accepted the fact and instead made a new life for himself. King Eurovan's fleshy desires eventually rebelled against him and forced him to become humble. At first he had a very hard heart and was cruel. But the visit of the prisoner Geol changed his life forever. The power to be king was taken away from him. Chasing the crown meant chasing his strongest addiction. This was his power and being able to do whatever he wanted. Despite the journey he took to get the bird, the crown went in a different direction. He went to extremes to get what he wanted, but instead was humiliated. He learned that he was just a man and could never be king again. Works Cited Smith, Clark Ashton. "Title of the story: The Journey of King Eurovan." The double shadow and other fantasies.
