Designer Babies We want to be parents, but unfortunately our illnesses do not allow us to have healthy children. Imagine that doctors could remove the genes for debilitating children's disease using procedures such as PGD (preimplantation genetic diagnosis) and allowing you to have children without worrying about their lives. Will we make a change? Most people would say yes, as long as they know the technique is safe and wouldn't produce any mutant superpowers. In fact, preimplantation genetic diagnosis, or PGD, allows doctors to check embryos for genetic defects before they are implanted into a woman's uterus. In this way it is possible to modify the genes of unborn children to change their appearance, intelligence and resistance to diseases. On the other hand, there is discussion about designer babies, how we are against nature and how this could affect our society? In my opinion, the idea of designer babies is beneficial to our society. Designer babies represent new hope for many families. Parents can fulfill anything for their children, including time, money, health and life. Watching children suffering from illnesses and disabilities would be punishment from parents. Additionally, many diseases are inherited from generation to generation, such as cystic fibrosis, Huntington's disease, Down syndrome, Duchene muscular dystrophy, celiac disease, Noonan syndrome, and cancer. All of them cannot heal completely and follow the children forever. Furthermore, children suffering from genetic diseases would have to spend their lives in hospital and would lose school, playground and childhood. However, PGD allows doctors to remove the disability genes from the embryo and create a new healthy life. If it offered children a better future, would we say no? According to the article "Introduction to Designer Bab... middle of paper... a tough game to play and one that carried unpredictable risks, but it is promising and worth trying. However, designer babies bring new hope to many families , a solution to pollution and the future. There will be a long discussion about the ethics and freedom of PGD, but the value of the technique is estimated and proven. Therefore, scientists do not have the power of God, but they have the courage and power of knowledge. If they can guarantee the benefits of tailor-made babies, what stops us from saying yes?
