Schizophrenia is a complex brain disorder, incurable but treatable to live a near-normal life. There are different types of schizophrenia, and each of them has different symptoms and affects a person's life in different ways. Schizophrenia is an illness that has highs and lows, meaning that people with the illness have acute periods called relapses. This happens when a person with schizophrenia experiences a series of sensations that are an addition to his or her usual feelings, and because they are additions, they are called "positive symptoms." The term "positive symptoms" does not mean that it is positive in the sense that it is desired or a good thing to have. They are hallucinations and delusions and are believed to be triggered by stress. The other type of symptoms are "negative symptoms", which are withdrawals from the normal amount of feelings, some of these include: loss of interest, loss of energy, and loss of motivation. I will talk about the positive symptoms of schizophrenia first. One of the most recurring positive symptoms are hallucinations. Hallucinations are false perceptions, inaccuracies that affect a person's senses and make us hear, see, taste, touch or smell what others do not. Some people with schizophrenia hear voices that can be reassuring and yet can be very threatening. Many times these rumors lead people to harm themselves or simply do abnormal things. Hallucinations, usually always the same, take control of a person and make him feel like a victim. Delusions are also a very common positive symptom of schizophrenia. Delusions are false beliefs or incorrect interpretations of events and their meaning. For example, a schizophrenic person might be undifferentiated and residual. Undifferentiated is when there are many symptoms that do not fit into a subcategory of schizophrenia, while residual is when the main symptoms of the disease have subsided but some characteristics, such as hallucinations and flat affect, may remain. There are numerous theories of how schizophrenia is caused, but no one knows a true answer as to how it manifests. Research so far says people inherit a genetic venerability for schizophrenia, others say it's due to an imbalanced amount of chemicals in the brain that causes an inability to maintain mental health. Most of the symptoms are believed to be caused by an abnormal amount of stress in the person's life, but one truly positive thing about the disease is that an affected person is able to live an almost normal life, that is, with proper treatment and medications..
