Animals are a form of representation of this type of gender discrimination. Both the man and woman in the terracotta plaque have at least one animal held or around them in this artwork. The animal that the woman is holding in her arms is a snake, an animal considered dangerous, lethal and, in biblical terms, evil. The serpent plays an important role in the punishment of mankind, particularly that of Adam and Eve. The biblical event describes a serpent who comes to convince Adam to take an apple from the forbidden tree but when he refuses, he tries to convince Eve to take the apple, succeeding and forcing God to exile them from paradise. This refers to the fact that the woman holds the snake in the artwork because snakes are symbolically considered evil or a temptation and because of this, the fact that the woman holds the snake portrays them as both evil and temptation, making them the same. Also, you can see how the woman is holding the snake in her hand, the snake is in front of her, portraying that she and the snake are one because they are together. This means that because she is a female and is supposed to be feminine, submissive and weak, she is not a good person but instead is evil.
