In the 21st century, many people around the world are facing the nightmare of being extremely overweight. This is mainly due to the type of food we eat, sedentary lifestyle and other factors such as stress. Being overweight has a cost, the most lethal being the risk of contracting new diseases associated with excess body fat, which is a major contributor to the numerous deaths we are experiencing around the world today. In medical terms, being extremely overweight is called obesity. Obesity is excess body fat associated with health problems (Stettler et al 1). Research conducted by various individuals and institutions highlights the fact that obesity is the leading cause of death worldwide. The main known causes of obesity are; lack of sleep, stress, some medications, too much fast food, depression, bacteria in the gut, too many carbohydrates, some viruses, and little or no exercise (Rossen et al 35).
