Both Percy Boyd Staunton and Claudius are very similar. Both are power hungry and will do anything to get to the top. Boy shows his dedication to success by saying "if you don't hurry up and let life know what you want, life will soon show you what you'll get." (Davies 120-21) This quote explains how if you don't act, fate will determine what you will get. Unlike Claudius, Boy gains his power and status legally, without hurting anyone, but through determination and hard work. However, they both feel guilty and both try to hide their guilt by not thinking about it and ignoring it, but in the end they can no longer hide it. Dunstan finally confronts Boy about the snowball but Boy denies it, saying “I threw the snowball – at least you say that, and for the sake of argument forget it – and you dodged it. He fell into something that probably would have happened anyway. The difference between us is that you've mulled it over and I've forgotten it. This quote shows how Boy tries to forget the incident and shows how he makes excuses that it would have happened anyway. This is Boy's way of masking his guilt.
