The Life and Achievements of Louis PasteurAccording to the Encyclopedia Britannica (2013) Louis Pasteur was both a chemist and a microbiologist. This human was a man of many great achievements who made many contributions to the fields of science, technology and medicine. Louis Pasteur was a pioneer in his field and should be highly respected. Without his contributions we wouldn't have many cures for some of the deadliest viruses and diseases. Furthermore, we would not be able to enjoy much of the food and drink we consume daily without the risk of getting sick. Just some of Pasteur's contributions are the creation of pasteurization and the creation of vaccines to combat rabies and anthrax disease. Louis Pasteur is a man of many achievements and is one of the greatest names in medical and scientific history. He has benefited the world through his vaccinations and pasteurization creations. Louis Pasteur was born in France in the year 1822. According to Biography.com (2013) “his father, Jean-Joseph Pasteur, was a tanner and a sergeant major”. His father's stern ways are said to be the reason for the consistency of Pasteur in what he did. At the beginning of elementary school Pasteur was nothing more than the average student. It was only when Louis Pasteur attended the Royal College of Besançon that his true gift began to manifest itself. In the year 1842, Pasteur earned his Bachelor of Science degree. According to the BBC (2013) Louis Pasteur earned his doctorate from the École Normale University in the city of Paris, France After finishing his studies, Pasteur went on to become a teacher as he completed his research. The BBC (2013) states that Pasteur taught both in Dijon and Strasbourg where... halfway... he could find a stable one. After much research and experimentation, Pasteur realized that over time, by injecting the vaccine numerous times, it had actually begun to kill the infectious microbes. This was the beginning of inactivated vaccines. After many years of testing, Pasteur decided it was time to test his vaccine on a human. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica (2013.), Pasteur tested his vaccine on a little boy who was bitten by a dog suffering from rabies in the year 1885. His attempt was hugely successful and Pasteur's name spread all over the world. The vaccine has been used to treat many other rabies victims and has saved many lives. Without this vaccine many people would and would continue to die of rabies without any chance. This vaccine was one of the greatest achievements of the medical world to date.
