They have restrictions, however no method is better than the others for gathering information. Each of them simply has different means and objectives of study, positivist, being neutral with respect to scientific data, interpretive, being the meanings that humanity attaches to its own actions, and critical sociology, being more political, with the desire to make the world a better place. A more politically oriented sociologist may prefer critical sociology, while one who is not political or wants to focus more on scientific data may prefer positivism. All three methods are unique in how the sociologist gathers and applies the information he or she discovers, but each approach is useful, depending on one's goal.
