People maintain an emotional distance from each other to prevent others from getting too close to them. Robert Frost in the poem "Mending Wall" shows the reader an example of two different types of people. One type of person is open to the idea of friendship and is willing to make an effort to try to resolve any conflict and try to get along with someone else in any way possible. Then there is the other part that is against the idea of change, the one that is closed to the idea of something new and against breaking down social barriers. Yet both sides seem to find their common meeting ground in front of the wall. Robert Frost's "Mending Wall" shows the seasonal routine of two neighbors who constantly repair a wall that separates their properties. Each spring the two neighbors meet at the wall to repair any damaged or misplaced stones that may have occurred during the long winter months. Frost expresses the deformed condition of the wall due to specific conditions as when, "The frozen ground swells beneath it, And overturns the upper boulders into the sun, And creates gaps where even two people can pass abreast. The work of the hunters is another thing: I chased them and repaired where they left not a stone upon a stone, but would bring the rabbit out of hiding” (2-8) Frost's use of detailed description in this poem is rather interesting. It helps give the reader a better visual image of the poem. However it doesn't go too far in telling the reader exactly what is going on, it leaves the poem open to interpretation so the reader can decide for themselves what is really going on. between the neighbors. On the one hand, Frost specifically tells us what is happening in the poem, the two neighbors meet at the beginning... in the middle of the paper... he and falls into the shadows. Furthermore, the poem emphasizes that the quote used by the man “Good fences make good neighbors” (57-58) was originally a saying of his father, so there is also some tradition behind the existence of the walls. To me the wall simply symbolizes how men are very different and how the wall separates them mentally, spiritually and even physically. In a non-physical sense the wall is more of a line shown to separate the difference between men. two types of people portrayed in the poem. Although not both parties feel and realize that they are different in many ways, this clearly shows that both men do not share the same feelings towards the same topics. It is important to admit that they are not completely different and that they can get along, but on a more personal level it is better for everyone to do things their own way..
