All of these things can influence grandparents' feelings, children's feelings, grandparents' relationships with adult children, relationships with grandchildren, health, finances, and social isolation. There are many benefits: grandparents have a second chance at parenting, a closer relationship with their grandchildren, the chance to make a difference in a child's life, have a greater purpose in life, can increase tolerance for younger generations and this can help keep grandparents young and active. Children raised by grandparents may express feelings of abandonment, even though they are grateful to their grandparents for caring for them (Saltzman & Pakan, 1996). I believe that, as educators, schools can contribute significantly by helping grandparents cope with the stress of parenting. School personnel may need to learn to recognize and accept the strong feelings experienced with each family member. Sometimes it can be a very delicate and stressful situation to deal with situations like this. As an educator you must be able to show support to the family and cooperate with any counseling possible
