There are some diseases that people can overcome with the right treatment; However, there are some diseases that are a lifelong battle even with treatment. A great example is diabetes. There are two types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is diagnosed in childhood or adolescence. Type 2 diabetes is diagnosed in adulthood. Type 1 diabetes is important but affects only a small portion of the population, mainly adolescents, while type 2 diabetes affects a large portion of the population, making it more of a priority. The first step in understanding any disease is to discover its causes, the onset of symptoms and finally the cure or treatment, but diabetes is one of the many diseases without cure. Diabetes is a lifelong struggle and can only be contained through lifestyle changes and regular monitoring. Diabetes is a disease in which the body is unable to control the amount of sugar such as glucose in the blood. Blood supplies glucose to provide the body with the energy needed to carry out daily activities. The liver turns the food a person consumes into glucose. Next, glucose is released into the bloodstream. “In a healthy person, the blood glucose level is regulated by several hormones, mainly insulin. Insulin is produced by the pancreas, a small organ located between the stomach and the liver. The pancreas also produces other important enzymes released directly into the intestines that help us digest food. Insulin allows glucose to move from the blood to cells throughout the body where it is used as fuel. The scenario of people with diabetes is that there are some who do not produce enough insulin, which is type 1 diabetes, or the other type is with people who cannot use insulin properly, which is type 2 diabetes (Pollin)....... middle of the article......://www.emedicinehealth.com/diabetes/article_em.htm>.Gorman, Christine. “Health: Why So Many of Us Suffer from Diabetes – TIME.” Breaking News, Analysis, Politics, Blogs, News Photos, Videos, Tech Reviews - TIME.com.
