The term “survival of the fittest” is more significant than it has ever been as the imbalance between the world's ever-growing population and limited resources of the planet are exploited to benefit the rich. Those in the poorest sections of society face greater challenges as businesses take advantage of people who have no choice but to take low-wage work simply to “survive”. These workers fall into the unfortunate trap of being exploited for the benefit of the people they work for, which will then lead to long-term negative effects on the economy and promote discriminatory acts to become a norm in societies. Business economies that use cheap labor in other countries as a “business strategy” capture most of the benefits while causing more harm than good to countries where cheap labor is allowed. Cheap labor may have its short-term benefits for the country, as it provides a livelihood for communities, but in the long term it severely limits the advancement of the workforce. As workers acquire low incomes, they lack the opportunity to acquire things that could improve their livelihood and move away from poverty, such as further education for themselves and/or their children (Munger, 2002, p. 227 ). The low-cost workforce is highly dependent on foreign investment and this creates a further imbalance and a growing wage gap. If a large part of the population is unable to acquire the means for a decent quality of life, this decreases the purchasing power of the population, stagnating local economic growth, as people are unable to purchase goods and thus infuse funds into the local market. stagnation of local businesses. An ec...... middle of paper ...... compete for the most profitable ways of operating their businesses, such exploitation of humans is usually seen as an advantage rather than a harmful and often ignored practice, since many focus on the short-term effects or simply turn a blind eye because it doesn't affect them directly. But as active and advantaged parts of a society, we can speak up for the people who are victims of such practices, since their voices can hardly be heard. It is our responsibility to act while being well aware of the companies we are dealing with. Raising awareness in our respective communities to educate others about the effects of human rights exploitation through wages can also help put an end to such practices. However, it will take a long time for such practices to disappear completely and drastic measures of commitment and education are needed to achieve this goal..
