Aspects, prevention and treatment of eating disorders in adolescents in America. Is there perhaps an exact definition of perfection? It is really difficult to prevent people from falling into illnesses and disorders related to self-esteem, image and fashion; when there are so many myths, speculations and complications in terms of the human body and other people's perception of us. Eating disorders, as the name suggests, revolve around food, so they are really difficult diseases to fight, because eating is necessary for the body and is good for you, but unfortunately the media has created a distorted image of beauty. We can find different eating disorders but in the era the most important are Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa, the first is defined as "an eating disorder characterized by an intentional weight loss well beyond the normal range. The fear of gaining weight is almost always a predominant factor in this search. The desire to perfect oneself through one's body, and by extension in every other way, is also a strong characteristic and can supersede the reality of bodily structure and function, resulting in a distorted body image. (“Anorexia Nervosa” 2) and the second which is defined as “an eating disorder closely linked to anorexia nervosa. It is an emotionally based disorder in which food is used as a means to satisfy internal needs. Unlike anorexia, in which food restriction is used as a means to gain control, in bulimia, eating unusually large amounts of food, bingeing, and then purging is a response to stress” (“Bulimia Nervosa” 4) just like it is mentioned in the book “Eating Disorders” by Diane Yancey. With the advancement of science and technology, new diseases appear, both physical and human... middle of the paper... the ordinance is a problem that is highlighted in this society because the power of the human being has been modified, leaving behind what is traditional and simple, which is why every day we become a society dominated by consumerism. The culture that surrounds us, from the media that surrounds us every day to buy something be it food, clothes, beauty to the people around us. Eating disorders can be developed by combining psychological, interpersonal and social conditions. “The fear of obesity and the pursuit of thinness represent the driving force of both anorexia and bulimia nervosa” (Schlundt, David and Johnson 22,) it is important to recognize that these diseases are influenced primarily by psychological and psychiatric disorders which include depression and a poor self-perception of the body that is, more often than not, influenced by the innovations of modern culture (Stearns 34.)
