Without an education Americans are unable to fully thrive and compete with competitive career paths, which are the same for any country. To grow and expand, an individual needs education and knowledge of the area of expertise they wish to achieve. However, the availability and opportunities to obtain an education are much lower in poorer countries than in the United States. Such low levels of education, in fact, have contributed to the problem of child labor, a growing epidemic in Honduras. Due to “rapid population growth and limited school budgets […] the school day in Honduras has been reduced to half a day” (Groves 172). This downsizing left the children with the opportunity to work for the rest of the day. However, once they start working, most tend to leave school believing that it is not worth investing in their education, as working on their own provides them with the valuable skills needed (Groves 172). This perception has led “between 69 and 75% of children working in construction, agriculture, and the service sector” to no longer attend school (Groves 172). However this believed perception is far from the truth. Blue-collar
