Many organizations have been destroyed or severely damaged financially and have taken a hit to their reputations, such as Enron. The word Ethics comes from a Greek word called Ethos, which means “The particular character or values ​​of a specific person, people, culture, or movement” (The American Heritage Dictionary, 2007, p. 295). Ethics have always played and will continue to play a huge role within the corporate world. Ethics is one of the important topics that are debated for a long time without reaching a conclusion, as there is no right or wrong answer. It basically depends on how each individual perceives a particular situation. In recent years we have witnessed unethical business practices from companies like Enron, which has affected many stakeholders. Bad unethical practices affect society in many ways; employees lose their jobs, investors lose their money, and the country's economy is affected. This leads people to lose faith in the economy and organizations run by so-called “educated” senior executives who had one goal in mind, personal gain. When Enron came on the scene in the mid-1980s, it was little more than a boring energy distribution system. Ten years later, it was a multibillion-dollar company, considered the emblem of the “new economy” for its willingness to use technology and the Internet in energy management. Fifteen years later, the company is filing for bankruptcy in the wake of a massive financial collapse, arguably the largest in American corporate history. As this article is written, the extent of Enron's collapse is still being researched, investigated and prodded. It will take years to determine what, exactly; the impact of the disappearance of this energy giant will have repercussions on both the industry and the
