All five functions were discussed at the meeting, but the main emphasis was placed on finance due to the potential passage of SB1, which is the draft Senate Bill 1, which could be passed in place of Senate Bill 16. On the staffing side, the board discussed the hiring and retirement of staff for this year and next year and the potential use of eight bilingual educators. On the curriculum side, the board was talking about changing the grading scale to more standards and also discussing introducing new technology, such as iPads, into fourth and fifth grade classrooms next year. As for the students, the board truly has their best interest at hand. One student, who has cerebral palsy, came up to receive the recognition and said thank you, and it was heartwarming to see that student succeed and achieve. He is definitely an inspiration to many people and deserved that award because he proved that obstacles cannot stand in the way of achieving success.
