Topic > War on Terror - 2098

On September 11, 2001 there was an attack on America. Four planes were hijacked, two crashed into the World Trade Center in New York, the third crashed into the Pentagon in Washington and the fourth was stopped by a passenger. It was the first terrorist attack on American soil. Thousands of lives were lost that day. This attack was the most devastating act of belligerence on US soil since the Civil War (Terrorism, 2011). This also had a huge influence on America and its history. It has led to numerous short-term and long-term effects. On September 20, 2001, former President George W. Bush publicly announced that he was declaring a “War on Terror.” After this announcement, our country has changed. To determine whether an effect was positive or negative, you determine the person's point of view. Some of these effects include; USA Patriot Act, creation of the TSA, war and problems soldiers have after combat and health problems at Ground Zero. However, whether the effects were positive or negative, they still left a huge mark on our country. One of the major organizations created by the September 11 attacks that led to the declaration of the “War on Terror” was the creation of TSA, Transportation Security. Administration. The TSA was created to develop policies to protect airport transportation and prevent aircraft hijackings. Oversees the safety of highways, railroads, buses, mass transit systems, pipelines and ports. Although they are primarily responsible for screening passengers and checked and carry-on baggage at around 450 airports. They are different types of TSA employees; Transportation Security Officer, Federal Air Marshal, Transportation Security Inspector, and National Explosives Detection Dog Team Program. (Security, 2010) T...... middle of document ...... a federal office of homeland security to prevent future terrorist attacks on the nation (September 11, 2006). After 9/11 and the declaration of war on terrorism, every person in power tried to do everything possible to protect our nation. There is no doubt that after this powerful event, important things began to diminish (September 11, 2006). Some major issues have been the weakening of our economy, rising unemployment, and the worsening of our recession (September 11, 2006). Airports have fared the worst, faced bankruptcy, insurance rates have increased there and they have had to undertake costly overhauls of their security systems (September 11, 2006). The war on terrorism has had a great impact on our nation, but in different ways some have been hurt. People have tried to fix it and put the pieces back together, but some things just can't be fixed. Time is the only way our nation will recover.
