Jackson never wanted the reader to know exactly what he meant when he decided to use names that coincided with the message he was trying to portray. I myself as a reader did not notice the coincidence between the names and objects with what was happening in the story. After reading "The Lottery" several times, as a reader, I understood. Through research I was able to read between Jackson's lines and understand why he used specific names and objects. Numerous symbolic connotations have been found in the “Lottery”.
