Technological Advances Correlate with the Teachings of EvangelicalismThere are many factors that best explain the changes in evangelicalism between the periods 1920-1960 and 1960-2000. One of the most important of these factors is the continuous change and development of technological advances in the twentieth century. Evangelicals used industrial forms of communication such as radio, television, cinema, and contemporary music to promote and spread the word of Christianity. With the success of creative outlets for religious teachings, evangelicals and evangelical Protestants adapted to American social, political, economic, and cultural life that was rapidly transforming across the nation and would continue to transform into the twenty-first century. how technological advances have influenced the spread of evangelization, it is necessary to return to the origins of the Bible as the first outlet for promoting religious teaching. Throughout the 19th century, American citizens and politicians viewed the Bible not only as a symbol of moral authority and common decency, but also viewed the book as an icon of the political and cultural supremacy of the United States (27). American leaders advocated the importance of Bible reading and prayer in public schools, and in the mid-19th century it became state law that Bible reading was required as a means of promoting religion and ethical attitudes. (28). The Bible served as the basis for American culture, and much of the nation agreed that the country could not maintain the integrity crucial to democratic government if religion were not a part of its core values. (28). American evangelicals saw the Bible as divided down the middle for those who believe that God intervened in all of human civilization. The presence of evangelicalism in American politics and culture is still actively present. Although the term “desirable” is misleading when talking about politics. Some politicians claim to have strong ties to religious practices, but they do so only because much of the United States was raised on evangelical teachings and a proclamation of religious values would garner a significant amount of votes in elections. Evangelicalism is both desirable and undesirable within the culture due to the diversity in society. There are still individuals in the United States today who spread evangelism on a global scale. However, there is a large majority of the population that is progressively moving away from religious teaching and focusing more on themselves rather than on a divine being..
