They did not know the land well and many people say that the only reason they survived was because a local Indian, named Squanto, helped them and taught them the ways of his people. Soon the colonists finished much of their planting. Harvest time had arrived and the face of separatist attitudes was changing. After such a harsh winter, the fourth Thursday of every November is still card time to celebrate Thanksgiving. A small group of English separatists made a big difference today, changing the way Americans live with just a small Harvest Festival.
