In the opening chapter we are greeted by a huge head, a huge heading containing the words "Globalization and international connections". The first thought that came to mind was the topic of the world economy discussed in one of my economics classes. The next few pages stayed on the topic of international connections and globalization, but narrowed the focus to social media and how it has really affected us over the last 15 years. The chapter talked about how it has changed the way we connect, how we do business, our overall business strategy, and how it has affected diplomacy. On a more micro scale, when I think about how social media has affected the business world, I think about how we now always have to be mindful of what we say on social media. A person's business can be both hindered and helped by how they behave on social media. I'm also starting to think about how a social media site like LinkedIn has made job and business searches in general much easier. The chapter then began to highlight the various different global economic systems we have in the world, from market economies, to command economies, and mixed economies. This one in particular was interesting, because it was fun trying to decide which countries would be ranked where in my head. As for chapter 2, the main topic was the legal and technological context. There was a continuation of information on social media, but it eventually branched into different ideologies of each nation. This was probably the most interesting part of the two chapters because it refreshed my memory on the three main idealisms, individualism. socialism and collectivism and it made me think about how unique the situation we live in here is the United States. My favorite aspect of chapter 2 was the different legal systems, the most interesting of which is Islamic law. Last summer I visited Dubai and some business was like night and day there, one
