The Walking Dead, a television show about survival in the world of zombies, is based on the comic of the same name created by Robert Kirkman. In this show Rick Grimes, the sheriff's deputy, wakes up from a coma and finds himself in the hospital. He soon discovers that while he was in a coma the world had been infected, turning humans into flesh-eating zombies later called Walkers by the characters. As Rick sets out to find his family, he meets many other survivors such as Glenn, Daryl, Carl, Maggie, Carol, Sasha, Hershel, Beth, and Michonne, among many others who have died along the way. Rick and the survivors faced many hardships throughout the show, such as having to move from place to place to avoid being eaten by walkers. After walking for a long time, they finally find refuge in the old prison where they now live. Although The Walking Dead shows a lot of violence, it sends many positive messages to viewers that teach them about survival, religion, and betrayal and how each of these can be useful in the real world. One message the show sends to its viewers is survival; you have to do everything you can to survive, but while you're trying to survive you can also offer help to others who are trying to do the same. In several scenes, Rick and the group are seen hunting animals and entering abandoned houses to find supplies: medicine, food and weapons. The actions the characters take entering abandoned houses and hunting animals indicate that, since there are almost no stores nearby to get food or medicine, they must now hunt and find their own medicine. Another example of how this show sends a message of survival is when Rick, Michonne, young black women carrying a katana, and Carl, Rick's son, set out to find food for Judith, R...... middle of paper.. ....for those who look at it. It's helpful because it teaches viewers how to survive in the zombie world, should that ever happen, and it teaches how to determine if others are in desperate need of help. Viewers will also learn that in desperate times, no matter what is going on, some people turn to or cling to religion because it's the only thing they believe will help guide them through difficult situations. The last thing viewers will learn from watching is that betrayal through envy is dangerous, it can get them killed or cause them to lose a friend because of it. Instead viewers should love and be grateful for what they have and not envy others for what they don't have. Overall The Walking Dead is beneficial because viewers will learn many things just by watching and will be able to apply those things they learn by watching to help them or others in the real world.
