During this semester we had to write many types of essays. Even though this is a college English course, there is still room for improvement. I made a lot of improvements during the semester of classes. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements in areas where I had problems. Although each essay we did was different, I was able to start with one essay and turn it into two more essays over the course of the semester. I was able to change my writing style to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and improve it. During the semester we moved from Change Project to Public Argument. I was able to look back at how one essay was developed into multiple essays. The type of article I was writing determined how I was able to persuade my audience. The audience for the articles changed throughout the semester, also changing how I developed my article. In one essay I used sources to convince readers to agree with me. In the other essay I used my words and thoughts to grab the reader's attention and convince him to agree with my point of view on the matter. While one essay was a more formal audience and another was more informal, both required persuasion and attention grabbing. One audience was captured by using facts, while the other was captured by talking about experiences and explaining how the topic related to the audience. Although the article was different, each article required some type of persuasion. The article writing process can be very frustrating. You need to get your ideas together first. Putting your ideas together can be one of the hardest parts of writing because you may not know what's in the middle of the paper when you're simply using a website. When you used a website you already knew what type of article you had before reading it. Additionally, many of the sources in the database were quite long, making it more difficult to glean information from them. Even though finding the source wasn't what I was used to, I was able to find the ones I needed to complete the required documents for the course. This course was much more intense than I expected, but I managed to get through the semester. I learned a lot from this course that I will take with me into the future and use in other courses. In the end, all the review and feedback I received throughout the course helped me. I feel like I'm gradually becoming a better writer. I will take everything I learned in this course and use it for future reference when writing articles. Overall I enjoyed this class this semester.
