The problem of sexism in video games has been going on for a long time. Similarly, Fox talks about how “research has indicated that many video games and virtual worlds are populated by hypersexualized and unrealistic portrayals of women.” This shows how women have been sexualized in the media which portrays them as self-objectified. Jess explains in her research that “as a result of the hypersexualization of women in video games this would lead to an increase in rape myth acceptance.” In one of her experiments, Jess focuses on the effects of avatar characteristics on women's experience of self-objectification. She finds that college women exposed to overly sexualized avatars in video games experienced a higher level of self-objectification than those exposed to non-sexualized avatars. Furthermore, Jess explains how “self-objectification mediated the relationship between control of a sexualized avatar and subsequent level of RMA.” The video game industry has portrayed the female character as sexually objectified or shown as a victim who is in desperate need of help through male protagonists, this portrayal has a negative effect on the minds of our generation and the gender roles they identify with. Dill explains in her article Effects of Exposure to Sexually Stereotypical Video Game Characters on Tolerance of Sexual Harassment that female video game characters are continually shown as gorgeous, busty, scantily clad sex objects. This has been confirmed by many video game players that women have been portrayed as a sexual object. Dill further explains how women in video games are underrepresented and games rarely depict female heroes. This shows that female characters were rarely shown in video games, and if so those female characters were not reflected... in the middle of the paper... or in the way they dress. From this it is concluded that online media and games can create and reinforce gendered behaviors. These video games influence the child's identity and his perception of others. In conclusion, video games that contain sexual themes are depicted in a more graphic way. And video games that use the Damsel and Distress plot reduce women to a state of victimhood. The way female characters dress in the video game has reinforced stereotypes about gender roles. Since most of these games feature female characters wearing revealing clothing, which reduces their identity to mere sexual objects. However, the developer placed emphasis on the masculinity and physical power of the male character. The way these games portray female and male characters reinforces the gender role stereotype. This can negatively affect the identity and perception of the person playing those games,
