Canada struggled with many of the obstacles of warfare in the First World War. All his soldiers fought for their country to achieve peace throughout their country. Many of Canada's brave young soldiers died for what they did to bring about the end of the war. But, after their success, they returned home to their beautiful nation of Canada, were treated with many rewards, and relaxed for the rest of their lives with their families waiting. However, did their lives improve during the 1920s? Did they have a better life in the years to come? Did everyone get their personal freedoms or was everything exactly the same as before? In this essay you will discover how women's roles have changed dramatically across Canada, also how technology has evolved and met the new end point of a new generation. As well as how this nation's society has changed its face on the globe. Before the 1920s, Women weren't even considered “People”. They were treated in a non-respective matter, they did not even have the right to vote in elections. But because of their major contribution to the war effort on the Home Front, they earned more than just respect, they earned their right, their freedom, the right to vote and even some were elected to office, and many other freedoms. And in fact the first woman to be elected to the House of Commons was Agnes MacPhail, this simply shows the improvement of women during the 1920s. Then, in 1927, the Famous Five made the question of women as “People” even more troubling. They took this debate to the Supreme Court on their side, stating that women are equal to men and that the word “People” could also mean women. In the end they had achieved the victory of being equal. Later…half of the document…created, in 1918-1919, due to men and women drinking too much. This would reduce the crime rate, as happened in Calgary, where DUI arrests decreased by 93%. Fewer police officers were needed to enforce the law, and some prisons were closed. But then again alcohol was made legal again because it is part of Canadian culture and life. In conclusion, the lives of Canadians were improved as a result of the changes that occurred during the 1920s. Women lived in liberation as they were now equal to men. They have gained many rights during these times. Technology has advanced and made the lives of Canadians easier and more time-efficient. They made a new lifestyle. As well as the company, it created more jobs and distributed more revenue to the Canadian people. Canadians could now relax after the disastrous war previously fought.
