In Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett two characters, Estragon and Vladmir are waiting for "Godot" in which Beckett does not explain. Along with Estragon and Vlamir come Lucky and Pozzo two other figures who add a bit of nonsense to the comedy to distract the reader from the real issue, waiting for Godot. Simply who or what is "Godot" is the question that Beckett's work raises. It's easy to say that Godot is a Christ or God figure, hopefully Beckett doesn't make it that easy. So who/what is Godot? You could say that the characters are just waiting for someone or something to make sense of the world they find themselves in. The characters desperately wait day after day for this "Godot" to arrive, yet he never arrives. You have to examine each character to find out who Godot is looking for. The first to appear in the play is Estragon who is French, being due to his name with his pair Vladmir a Russian. These two appear in this order because of their national revolutions, the French and Russian revolutions. The two represent the postmodern human being who never finds himself...
