Individuals in today's society seem to be exceptionally confused about the pit bull label. The name pit bull is primarily recognized for two specific breeds: the American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier. Individuals generally purchase these dogs for security or illicit fighting. When a pit bull mauls a human it's almost always a huge hit on social media. Pit bulls can be hostile when they feel intimidated, just like any other class of dog. Although Brian C. Anderson provides a rather informed argument, I disagree with his opinion that pit bulls are murderous animals, created to attack, and should be banned from society. Brian C. Anderson lived in the Bronx with his wife and son. Their neighborhood was a little rough considering the area they lived in. They began to realize that pit bull owners were bringing their dogs to the neighborhood park to participate in illicit dog fights. When the dogs finished fighting, they released them into the city to terrorize innocent people. They decided to move from the Bronx after their neighbor's dog was bitten by a pit bull that was on the loose. Anderson believes that all pit bulls are born with innate aggressive behavior. He also believes that pit bulls are causing problems on all public properties (Anderson). Anderson states that "Gotham police and other authorities had to arrest 892 biting dogs in 1997, 200 more than the year before" (Anderson). Anderson believes there should be a ban on the pitbull breed, due to their unusual behavioral traits. The traits that make pit bulls seem so horrible would be: quick to anger, determined, and oblivious to pain. Anderson believes that taking these evil dogs off the streets would mean putting more ba...... middle of paper ...... on the kind of people who put pit bulls into the hands of . By doing background checks on owners and vetting our pit bulls at least once after they are adopted, the pit bull breed will not have to suffer (Anderson). Although Brian C. Anderson provides a somewhat informed argument, I disagree with his belief that pit bulls are murderous animals, created to attack, and should be banished from society. Pit bulls are discriminated against because of their power and appearance. These dogs are bred by malicious people who get a thrill out of watching two dogs fight to the death. We need to consider pushing for more laws to protect pit bulls and more rules when adopting them from animal shelters. Others need to see the damage they are causing to the pit bull breed and to see the real victim in this case; the pit bull (Anderson).
