As he was traveling along the long empty highway he could see that the clouds had drawn a dark curtain across the endless sky. Hailstones threatened to shatter the windshield. And it seemed that the thunder shook the entire foundation of the car. The storm had been unexpected. Kaleb hadn't even thought about gripping the tires. As a result, the worn-out Cadillac struggled to stay on the right side of the road. It would have been murder to get caught in that situation tonight. It frustrated him immensely that he couldn't go faster than 40 miles per hour without catapulting his car into the dark abyss. Although, this seemed like a catch-22, as if he didn't make it home in the next hour, the storm would be in its element destroying everything in its path. Who was he to get in Mother Nature's way? Ava would hyperventilate at the thought of her husband being in danger. It would most likely have caused a premature birth and in that time their baby would have been born in the bathroom. Kaleb had decided that focusing on his surroundings would be safer than getting caught up in silly daydreams. As far as the eye could see, all there was was the black strip of asphalt that made up the road. In the next ten minutes or so he would pass Rahway State Prison, but would that really be the safest place to go if he were stuck? Kaleb contemplated that idea as it seemed comforting to have another option in case time got the better of his old car. As he scanned the empty landscape there seemed to be some sort of figure standing in the distance. There couldn't be a sane person out here in the middle of nowhere in weather like this. As the car approached, Kaleb saw a pleasantly chubby man... in the middle of a paper prison...? This man perfectly matched Joseph's description. What would he have done? How did he get Joseph out of the car without being killed! He stole a glance at Joseph, who was silently drumming his hands in his lap, staring out into the desert. “You know, I was really hoping you could give me a ride into town and I wouldn't need to do that but... Joseph stopped. He could feel the lump in his throat growing. His mind was spinning and time seemed to hang in mid-air. he could feel nothing anymore, he felt nauseous and wasn't sure he could control the car anymore. He took another look at Joseph and saw what appeared to be a large stone appear from his pants pocket. However, Kaleb already knew the his destiny and as he thought about Ava and her unborn child he felt a loud thud and darkness that took him away from reality..
