There are several key concepts discussed throughout the semester that stood out to me. These concepts include differences in family violence and how each race and culture represents a different scenario, different types of child abuse, and how easy it is to become a victim of stalking. All of these key concepts represent problems that can harm or even kill a victim without the proper solution. Get an Original Essay Different types of family violence are individually unique due to race and culture. For example, Korean culture believes that a man is never wrong, even when he beats his wife. The spouse does not report it or seek help because she is afraid that her family and friends will reject her and she will lose her resources to survive if the spouse goes to prison (Hines, Malley-Morrison, & Dutton, 2013). Compared to a Caucasian family, they have a higher percentage of asking for help from the police and receiving resources from services and the family. Every family experiences family violence differently and it cannot be generalized into a single category. It's unfortunate that many people believe that family violence is simple. Some of the factors that need to be considered are ethnicity, race, culture, whether the person experienced an abusive home life as a child, and many other factors. Some of the concepts learned this semester that can be applied to our efforts to reduce violence in families are to prevent children from becoming victims of family violence. By helping children who are victims of family violence, they can grow up without living in a violent family and reduce the risk of them becoming perpetrators of family violence, stopping it at the root of the problem. Child maltreatment can fall into three categories, including sexual abuse. , psychological or physical abuse. Child sexual maltreatment occurs when an adult inappropriately fondles a child or engages them in some type of sexual activity (Hines et al., 2013). Conditions for child sexual maltreatment contain traces of physical evidence of sexual activity such as damage to the vagina, anus, or mouth. Psychological child maltreatment occurs when an adult isolates, verbally abuses, and denies emotional response to a child (Hines et al., 2013). Some of the effects of a psychologically abused child include distractibility, lack of impulsive control, negative feelings, low self-esteem, noncompliant and angry behavior, and difficulty learning and problem solving. Physical child maltreatment occurs when an adult physically hits a child and includes punching, kicking, throwing, or even pushing (Hines et al., 2013). This can cause injuries such as lacerations, abrasions, burns, bites, bruises and fractures. Sexual, psychological and physical abuse of children can have negative effects, especially if the child is still growing. This is because their brain is not fully developed and becoming a victim can damage them and result in an incompletely developed brain (Van der Kolk, McFarlane, Weisaeth, 2007). Some of the concepts learned throughout the semester that can be applied to our efforts to reduce the three types of child maltreatment are informal systems.
