Nursing is called the heart of the medical profession due to its importance and I want to be a part of it. I also had the opportunity to participate in a multidisciplinary team meeting. I was able to communicate and participate as healthcare professionals took part in a patient care planning, which involved several healthcare professionals, nurses, doctors, CPN, social services and psychiatric team were all present. This was very important and I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to sit and learn the importance of all of themthese professionals coming together and working in unison, which also demonstrates the importance of holistic care provided by the multidisciplinary team. I became more interested and enjoyed being able to participate in the meeting highlighting the importance of teamwork in healthcare. I have been constantly inspired by the commitment made by nursing staff in the setting to ensure that patient care and needs are met. During the internship I was aware of the behaviors of a user service thanks to my experience over time. I believe I have been able to develop integrity skills and my sense of intuition, these are very important skills for nurses to have. An example of this was when interacting with service users on my health and social care course, I was able to get an initial insight into the routine of the setting learning about important topics such as dementia and safeguarding. I was able to put theory into practice effectively. In terms of insight I saw the fundamental principles of nursing and gained a clear understanding of the clear conduct and what is expected of the role of a nurse. I was able to develop my sense of intuition by developing my level of understanding related to empathy towards patients and by taking a step back and seeing the bigger picture. I also know how to handle high pressure situations well and situations that require high resilience. An example of this includes while dealing with a patient where he or she feels agitated and upset. I know what to do and how to resolve the situation calmly, putting the patients' needs first in a safe and polite manner. Here I learned the importance of de-escalation and engaging in the most effective way with the patient. I am confident in working independently and using initiative in situations where I may find myself alone. The staff commented on my maturity and compassion, as well as my ability to always empathize. These are the key skills that a nurse must possess and I believe that the key skills and qualities that I possess will help me to study and become a competent and registered adult nurse. I was also able to develop my leadership skills, which is also a very important quality for a nurse to have. An example of this is that I was able to complete activities with all patients without the help of the activities coordinator who she completely trusted me with. I felt I took responsibility and was confident in completing many tasks with the residents. From this I could understand why leadership is so important. Nurse leaders can make a critical difference in patient care. I am aware of the NMC Code and the vision for training future nurses and believe that by following it carefully we can support the provision of high quality person centered care when practicing consistently.During the Covid 19 pandemic. I wanted to continue to develop my skills and had a desire to help my community in any way I could. Therefore, I was able to volunteer at a local charity shop. Here I was able to develop my interpersonal skills and I was able to develop as a person. I really enjoyed this role and the help. I was able to help maintain the look of the store and organize donations. I really felt the feeling of a community coming together while volunteering there and how everyone comes together during this difficult time. This related to the role of a nurse as, in my opinion, they play an important role in healthcare and the backbone of the industry. I was able to develop my skills.
