I thoroughly enjoyed writing this free personal narrative essay, as it allowed me to express my unique experiences and perspectives in a creative and introspective way. Growing up through a difficult education system in Ghana, going to school has always been a bitter experience for me. Even though I was usually the best in the class, I hated school, for me entering the classroom was a taboo, I preferred to build my model of the disassembled frame from empty cans and cut out rubber slippers to play with street children. It was moments like these that gave me excitement, for us, at least we had something to replace the electric cars we couldn't have and, finally, do something we enjoyed rather than being forced into the prison called school. As we ran down the path chasing my artifice, our faces were filled with excitement, I was proud to be happy because I could put smiles on the faces of people I knew little about. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? Get an Original Essay I have spent almost fifteen years of my life listening to confused teachers. Teachers who were usually angry in part because they had few salaries and, at worst, the government delayed paying them. Maybe they argued with their wives the night before, I don't know but they usually vented their anger on the students for no tangible reason. They were aggressive in several ways, an experience that put me in endless fear of teachers. Every time I close my eyes, I feel the whips of the sticks, I see the tears of the students around me, I see trigonometry, polynomial, binomial and all the other things. equations and formulas you could ever imagine. That's because the metric for measuring knowledge and intelligence in our school was “chew and pour” and I hated it. This was contrary to what was happening in other parts of the globe where young people my age were changing the world. I felt inferior to those people. Paradigm Shift in My Life Despite all of this, there was hope. I have never lost focus on achieving my life goals. I was fortunate to have parents who had little to no education but were very enthusiastic about my education. My parents usually bought books for me to read as long as they could afford them. I was able to read a library of books from “The Nine Algorithms that Change the Future” by John MacCormick, “Hackers” by Steven Levy, “Voice of Conakry” by Kwame Nkrumah to “Oliver Twist” by Charles Dickens before I turned fifteen. From these books, I idolized great achievers like Kwame Nkrumah, Steve Jobs, and Bill Gates. Taking lessons from their successes, failures and how they overcame the challenges they faced in life, I have gathered my dreams and aspiration to become an influential leader, a kind of social entrepreneur with a pinch of technology who will have a great impact on society; my community, the African continent and the world at large. Because of this, my focus shifted from my hatred of school to realizing my ambitions. I attended classes judiciously and successfully passed the national high school examination at the Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School; one of the best in Ghana. In high school, in pursuing my dreams, I had more successes under my belt. I liked life in high school. I enjoyed the classes, I was able to explore my interest in technology through my science with the ICT curriculum. I followed almost all the concepts taught and tried to improve my skills in them. It was surprising to see how few lines!!!
