Topic > An Observation of the Clarion University Dance Concert Performance

On Sunday, April 22, 2018, I attended the dance concert hosted by Clarion University. This performance took place at 2pm and lasted for several hours. Unlike most performances, this one included many songs within it. For example, the audience had the pleasure of watching: Along Came Bialy, Break the Cycle, How Deep the Father's Love, Welcome to Wonderland, Hip Hop Team and many others. While watching these live performances, several ideas emerged in my mind. At the top was the talent and determination that these artists endured to create such beautiful dance art. The two main dances I would like to look at would be “Break the Cycle”, “Hip Hop Team” and “Along Came Bialy”. In my opinion, these two selections embody timeless classical ideas more than other pieces. The choreography, performance and lighting design made the overall production a successful and impactful experience for audience members. Say no to plagiarism. Each year Clarion University aims to donate to a charitable cause. This year, the school aimed to raise awareness about foster care. This cause is highly needed in the Clarion area, as proclaimed. The title of this one is certainly relevant to the cause it is affiliated with. Breaking the cycle of having homeless children is most likely what this represented. Whether this is true or not, this dance and the information about it offers a great effort in raising awareness of such issues. Along Came Bialy even had paragraphs of information about it in the pamphlet the public received. The composer of this piece was Mel Brooks. He had always wanted to reconstruct his vision of a personal encounter he had. He once had a producer who seduced older women in an attempt to get financing for his productions. This is where the idea for Bialy was born. Initially, the author of this selection had tried to write a book about this idea, but he felt it was too long and decided to simply base it on a play. This has been called a timeless piece. The Hip Hop team was the other selection I chose for analysis. This selection was made by our Clarion Hip Hop Team. The “step in time” bit was actually from Mary Poppins, and I found it intriguing. Mary Poppins gained popularity due to Wal Disney's interest. There were two conditions set by the author for her book to become a musical. The first was that all members had to be English. The second is that none of those who worked on the film could work on the stage production. Both were satisfied. The choreography in both selections mentioned was done wonderfully. This is based on the fact that the messages that the filmmakers wanted to reach the audience were successful in their efforts. In the song Break the Cycle the unstable song by X Ambassadors was played. The atmosphere of this song is a bit sad, and this is related to the message. One of the lines states "this house doesn't feel like home" which actually refers to the custody case. The dancers in this piece are very beautiful and elegant in their movements. The choreographer of this selection is Janet Amoroso. Even in my second choice “Along Came Bialy” the choreography was brilliantly executed. In the show, the story is based on real situations. The larger image in this selection represents older women who were seduced. The characters have walkers and dance to the music of.
