Topic > Real Estate Sales Agent Job Analysis

For this job analysis I interviewed my real estate mentor Rick Skogg; is the owner of The Pinnacle Group, affiliated with eXp Realty. Rick has worked for Keller Williams for over 20 years with experience as an agent and as the general manager of the Green Bay office. He agreed to let me interview him and showed me the tricks of the real estate sales agent trade. This type of work has interested me for a while; Rick just hired me as an agent that I'm getting my license for right now. I'm still not sure if I want to pursue this lifelong career, due to my interests in graduate school and industrial-organizational psychology. However, I believe this will provide me with a good experience and a better sense of professionalism. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? Get an Original Essay A real estate sales agent works to fill a middleman position between buyers and sellers of real estate. They advertise and promote properties, provide market information and present offers to buyers and/or sellers; they also conclude agreements, to summarize the career in a short statement. I asked Rick what the main function of being a real estate agent would be and he said, “The main priority is being a good negotiator and being able to communicate effectively with both buyers and sellers of properties. "Thinking back to this quote, I realize how vital it is to the job function. It's similar to the game of Jenga, without these elements it would be nearly impossible as a real estate agent to be successful. Listed on O*NET, job code is 41-9022 00. If you look on the website, you can see that there are more than 20 tasks alone to be a real estate agent. Some of the tasks have been summarized in the general job description properties, organizing “showings” and meetings, and evaluating property rates and values. One task listed, which I see as potentially more of a necessity, is developing a strong team of people around you. It is especially important in this industry , because the market is so widespread and most people specialize in a single aspect of real estate. For example, some people might be a contractor, lawyer, lender, etc. As you can see, there are many essential tasks needed to "make it" in this business. Furthermore, this shows how vital team building is and developing a network of people is key. If these tasks are not completed effectively and efficiently, this may not be the right career choice. From my analysis, some important skills to possess to be a real estate agent include being an excellent communicator, a dedicated and efficient worker, someone who can develop a talented mind, and being a great team player. Rick said: “It's important to be disciplined and make sure you're constantly reviewing the market and every proposal. ” He also touched on dedication and motivation; obviously, without these qualities it can make the job less fulfilling and rewarding (this can be monetary or mental/emotional). Other skills may be a degree of analytical, but also practical and as detail-oriented as possible. There are consequences that can occur if the process is not done carefully (this can be legal and/or financial). Rick emphasized how important it is to identify the market, the demand and carefully examine each proposal and transaction. Another skill, in a way!
