War on food The introduction of genetically modified foods in the 20th century was a turning point for humanity. Imagine being able to eat any type of fruit or vegetable all year round! Seems pretty amazing at first, doesn't it? I beg to differ. Instead of helping the population, as many thought, it has made thousands of people sick, and even some serious ailments have become more common over the past twenty years. Not only does the human population suffer from GMO crops, but the environment also suffers. Unfortunately, multi-billion dollar companies, like Monsanto, don't care about these risks, but care more about getting their dollar. If we continue to introduce GMO crops into our bodies, our health will continue to deteriorate over time. More citizens need to be aware of the negative effects of GMO crops and Monsanto's corruption. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? Get an original essay The war on food is the unfortunate rise of genetically modified food products, which completely take away the safety of organic and have not yet been proven safe to ingest. Genetically modified crops are slowly ruining our land, environment and our bodies. Over the past twenty years, GMO crops have increased and farmers who have not committed to Monsanto have been blacklisted. Even farmers with clean crops are still heavily affected by GMO seeds due to the wind blowing toxic herbicides into their fields. Recently, GMO alfalfa was approved and will start being planted very soon, this crop alone will release 23 million more pounds of toxic herbicides into the environment every year, and the government is supposed to be green? It seems a bit the opposite to me. It's important to be aware of what exactly we're putting into our bodies and what's in season. Personally, I don't want to ingest something that will release millions more toxins into our already polluted environment. In addition to having my perspective on the topic, a dear and valued friend of mine, Amy, was kind enough to speak with me about her opinions on the war on food. Amy is a lovely goddess from Longmont, Colorado and is an extreme advocate for small farming and clean organic produce. She and her boyfriend became more aware after watching Food Inc. for the first time and began to only ingest food that was truly all-natural. After keeping up with food democracy groups and doing as much research as possible, she and her boyfriend decided they would move to North Carolina to become small organic farmers to try to help our food industry, so, hopefully, in twenty years, we will have the choice of all natural products. When I asked Amy why she decided this was so important, she replied, I decided to act on it because it is slowly killing us and our planet. People may not be aware of it now, but when they do research and notice that none of the vegetables in the store are in season, where do they think they come from? It has not yet been proven that GMO foods are safe for humans or even animals to eat. I am an able-bodied young woman and I wanted to do my part. Especially being only twenty-one years old, I could have dropped everything and taken up farming in North Carolina without too many consequences. I also asked her if she thought we had any chance of getting what we wanted from Monsanto and the government and to stop eating so much GMO food, she said there wasn't much.
