In the opening scene of "The After Tomorrow", the characters introduced are three men named Jack, Frank and Jason. These three men are climatologists and were in the arctic lands doing investigations. They began digging a hole in the ground and then eventually cracked the ice floor, finding the beginning of what Jack declares to be an ice age. Jack Hall is one of the main characters in the film being a scientist who predicts the film's situation of a super storm forming. The opening of the film is important, it introduces the main character and the beginning of the main problem. It also shows that Jack was ignored by UN officials when he presented his environmental concerns later as a problem in realizing that it is too late to react and evacuate people from danger. The story is set in modern times around 2012 and in my opinion, I don't think the story would have worked if it was set in any other time because it would mean moving forward to be in the future. The problem that was revealed in the first part of the film was when Jack the climatologist suggested that greenhouse gas emissions could cause an ice age in about 100 years, but was ignored by the vice president as he was not convinced. Further investigation, Jack and his climatologist partners discovered that his predictions were wrong and that it would not take decades for this to happen, but could only take up to 6 or 8 days. The weather suddenly begins to change rapidly across the world, causing huge hailstones to fall on Tokyo and tornadoes to destroy cities and homes in Los Angeles and Hollywood. Say no to plagiarism. Get an original essay During the film, Jack and his wife Lucy Hall become the main characters worried about their son Sam, who is in New York with his friends Laura and Brian as the super-storm rapidly develops. Sam gradually turns into one of the main characters who has more screen time thanks to saving his friends and weathering the storm on his own. The problem Jack had to overcome was saving his son Sam who was trapped in the New York library due to a snowstorm while he was in Philadelphia. Jack and his climatologist partners Jason and Frank traveled on foot facing many hardships such as Frank, who fell from the roof of a snow-covered shopping mall taking all three down with him. Due to Frank's weight and the bag full of gear he was carrying, Jack and Jason were unable to bring him back to the surface. Frank makes the decision to cut himself from the rope that connected all three of them and to weather the violent storm with only the resources they had brought with them. The qualities that viewers see in Jack, the main character, as the film progresses are his survival skills as he manages to stay safe and protect himself during the storm. Another quality is his courage, he doesn't want to disappoint Sam and lose his promise to save him. He also uses his thinking skills to make quick decisions that will keep him and his remaining partner safe and alive during the adventure to save Sam as the storm worsened freezing everything that goes out into the air. The viewer is in the position of feeling worried and especially scared for the characters as they too have their own problems in dealing with the wild climate. A twist in this movie is the storm starts as a huge wave of water that takes over and continually floods the city of Los Angeles and then gradually, the temperatures from the storm start to drop causing a snowstorm so cold you would die frozen.
