ObamaCare Is Not Enough: America Needs Universal Healthcare Feverish and fatigued, Jenny was rushed to the emergency room. At the time of admission, doctors were unaware that Jenny had contracted a bacterial infection during a recent home labor and birth. Septic shock quickly consumed his body and shut down his major organs. In the end, doctors saved her life, but at a high cost: she lost all her limbs. Undeniably, Jenny received top-notch treatment for her infection, but the U.S. healthcare system failed her, leaving her with an obstacle. He didn't have health insurance. However, the outcome of her pregnancy and infection may not have been so drastic if Jenny had access to universal healthcare; would provide her with the adequate prenatal and postnatal care she desperately needed. When President Barack Obama signed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in March 2010 to provide access to health care to many uninsured Americans, the law was needed to ensure that the U.S. health care system stopped discriminating against people based on financial means, health conditions or gender. Despite the progress, Americans should not settle for the morsels provided to the uninsured; These changes represent the first steps towards healthcare reform. By examining the differences between the U.S. and French healthcare systems, Americans can identify the limitations of their system and aspire to a higher standard set by countries like France. Universal health coverage is often associated with a negative image of rationed care and long waits for treatment, but this is not the case in France.
