Festivales de La Nouvelle Orleans New Orleans is a city located in the southeastern part of the state of Louisiana. It is known to be rich in culture. Many people travel to this great city to enjoy the culture, including the food, uniquely styled homes, and a variety of music genres. If you were to ask most people what comes to mind when you hear the name New Orleans, many will respond by saying one of two things. The first answer would be Mardi Gras, a French term used to describe the period before the Catholic Lenten season when people eat fatty foods. The other answer a lot of people will give is Bourbon Street. This is one of the most famous streets located in the oldest part of New Orleans, known as the French area. Attractions such as the Chalmette Battlefield and the Beauregard House, which holds the history of the 1814-1815 Battle of New Orleans, ended any possible attempts by England to regain control of the American colonies, which were lost during the Revolution American, the War of Independence. This place is where General Andrew Jackson, local volunteers and the pirate Jean Lafitte along with his men defended the city from the invasion of the English. This history alone is the very foundation of how New Orleans became something like this. Yet there's one thing you can never forget when talking about the heartbeat of New Orleans. Originating from New Orleans, jazz music was quite important. Created in the 19th century, people at the time called jazz music “voodoo rhythms.” The only place in the New World where drums were allowed, Voodoo rituals were openly accepted and attended by people from all walks of life, rich or poor, black or white, this was one thing that united the people of New Orleans. Names like Buddy Bolden, Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet and Ellis, Wynton and Brandford Marsallis are prominent names of those who created music that won not only the hearts but the souls of people giving them the will to get started
