The Civil War began in 1861 and did not end until 1865 at Appomattox Court House, when Lee surrendered. While it was not an extremely long war, it had a major impact on several aspects of the United States. The Civil War had a very significant economic impact on American society. Because of its dramatic impact on all of the Americas, the spread of trade through railroads, and also the dispersion of wealth, America was hit the hardest economically. after the war it affected everyone. For example, blacks became sharecroppers and no longer worked for free. This shows that freeing slaves spread wealth more evenly across the country as Southern plantations now had to pay their workers. With the Union victory, the country transformed into an industrial nation. This economic shift led to an increase in global trade due to the industrial advances of both the Northern and Southern populations. At the end of the Civil War, a single currency was created, protective tariffs were implemented, and war bonds were issued. When the North won, it created a precedent of greater federal power that the government used to support the growing economy, as demonstrated by money, tariffs, and bonds. Despite these solid reasons to show that the economy was affected more significantly, there are some historians who think otherwise. statistic to show that the economy has not necessarily changed in the South. On the other hand, this statistic does not show the whole truth about how the South has been affected economically. Although agricultural production remained the same, industry still increased significantly in the South. And since it had little to no industry to begin with, this was a drastic change for the region as a whole. The Civil War had a more significant economic impact on America due to the construction of the railroads created during and after the war. This allowed trade to increase immensely across the country. It also led to the growth of industry as goods and supplies could be transferred to different areas of the country with ease.
