Throughout American history, politics has changed with the times, forming and growing as new situations and environments arose. However, the most drastic differences occurred between 1815 and 1840. During this period, the North and South developed different economic systems, which created political differences between the regions. Between 1815 and 1840, the number of eligible voters increased dramatically as politicians used a wider variety of campaign methods to attract as many voters as possible, all essentially caused by economic growth. The policy grows to include universal white male suffrage, a strong national government, and nationalism versus sectionalism. Economic growth (American system, industrial revolution, sectional economies, internal improvements and inventions) caused political party changes. To understand and analyze the forces that shaped politics during this time period, it is necessary to first examine political changes. One of the biggest changes during this time period was the change in the number of voters. Between 1812 and 1840, the percentage of eligible voters in U.S. presidential elections nearly tripled, from 26.9 to 80.2 percent, while the percentage of states allowing voters to choose presidential electors increased. more than doubled, from 44.4 to 95.8 percent, as shown in Document R. In 1840, Rhode Island was the only state that did not allow all free men to vote. The second biggest change in politics was the way candidates campaigned. Exhibit D shows a Democratic Party vote in 1828, demonstrating how state candidates, from governor to medical examiner, rallied behind Andrew Jackson, an incredibly popular candidate, in hopes of winning their... means of paper... ....Insists that the working classes of New York City have been betrayed by selfish politicians. Evans tells his fellow workers that they are equally entitled to a just and satisfying life and that they must use all lawful means to obtain it. Many other issues worried workers: the lack of (or costs of) children's education, poll taxes, and the flight of the wealthy from service in the militia. Labor parties quickly faded, and later workers usually joined the Jacksonian Democrats. The years between 1815 and 1840 saw many changes. Politics becomes more democratized with more voters, campaigns and candidates change tactics in hopes of attracting more people. All of this was driven by the century's significant economic developments, including transportation, the American system, and more. Each of these events shaped the way our country functions today.
